Gold Seal of Excellence Program

The Gold Seal of Excellence Charter School Program recognizes charter schools in Florida that meet high standards of quality in all areas of charter operations.

The Gold Seal of Excellence Program is the only award that recognizes all aspects of high quality Florida charter school operations, including student academic achievement, parent involvement, staff retention, compliance, financial management and governing board performance. The Gold Seal of Excellence criteria are based on the FCPCS Quality Standards for Florida Charter Schools.

The following Florida charter schools are the first to achieve the Gold Seal of Excellence:

  • Mater Academy Charter High School – Hialeah Gardens, Miami-Dade County - 2009-10
  • Somerset Academy Elementary – Pembroke Pines, Broward County - 2010-12
  • Somerset Academy Elementary – Miramar, Broward County – 2009-12
  • Somerset Academy Middle – Miramar, Broward County – 2009-12
  • Somerset Neighborhood School – Miramar, Broward County – 2009-10
  • Doctors Charter School – Miami Shores, Miami-Dade County – 2011-12
  • Manatee School For the Arts – Palmetto, Manatee County - 2011-12
  • City of Pembroke Pines Charter Elementary West – Pembroke Pines, Broward County - 2009-12

Charter schools wishing to apply for the Gold Seal of Excellence must be members in good standing of the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools. They must also have met AYP or 80 - 99% of AYP criteria and been open a minimum of two years. If the school has received a state grade, the most recent grade must be a "C" or higher.

The Gold Seal review and approval process is similar to the SACS CASI accreditation process.* However, the Gold Seal Program addresses more areas of charter school operations and applies standards that are more rigorous.

*Note on SACS CASI Accreditation:  Schools may also wish to apply for SACS CASI accreditation simultaneously. This is a separate process and requires submitting an application to AdvanceEd. Click here for more information.
