The Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools (FCPCS) is the state's primary membership association of public charter schools. Established in 1999 as a non-profit organization by a grassroots group of charter school operators, it provides advocacy, support, resources, and networking opportunities to new and existing charter schools, parents and students. FCPCS also promotes the establishment and operation of high quality public charter schools throughout the state.

FCPCS receives proclamation in honor of National Charter Schools Week

FLORIDA – To mark National Charter Schools Week (May 6-12, 2012), Senate President Mike Haridopolos issued a proclamation recognizing public charter schools in Florida and the vital role they play in the state’s public education system.

The proclamation will be presented to Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools members at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9th, at the A+ Celebration more than 100 high quality, top-performing public charter schools from across Florida will be honored. Hosted by the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools, the A+ Celebration will take place at Mater Academy Charter Middle High School located at 7901 NW 103 Street in Hialeah Gardens.

Guests include State Representatives Erik Fresen, Eddie Gonzalez, Carlos Lopez-Cantera, Jeanette Nunez, and Jose Oliva; State Senators Anitere Flores and Rene Garcia, and City of Hialeah Gardens Mayor de la Cruz.

Successful charter schools that incubate new schools are models of excellence

An article published by The Miami Herald on April 29, 2012 completely failed to mention that charter school incubation is a model of excellence and is helping many fledging charter school become high quality schools.

According to the report Better Choices: Charter Incubation as a Strategy for Improving the Charter School Sector by Public Impact, “…incubation is a promising strategy for creating more high-quality seats in an era of scarce funding.” Published in December 2011, the report also states that “…with targeted screening and support, many charter schools associated with an incubator get a stronger start and show stronger student outcomes than new schools left on their own.” ...read more.
